17th century
The Katagans support Tursun Khan
The Katagan tribe, ancestors of the Shanyshkyly, formed the main military support of Tursun Khan, ruler of Tashkent.
1628
The tribe divides
After Tursun Khan's defeat by Yesim Khan, part of the tribe joined the Senior Zhuz as Shanyshkyly; other parts merged into the Uzbek, Karakalpak, and Kyrgyz peoples.
18th century
Wars against the Dzungars
The clan's batyrs, including Berdykozha Batyr, fought in the battles of Bulanty and Anyrakai and in the armies of Abylai Khan.
1786
Death of Berdykozha Batyr
The clan's outstanding commander died on campaign and was buried with honors by a caravan road. His mausoleum was located by archaeologists in 2011.
2000
The book “Shanyshkyly Shezhiresi”
Mekembai Omaruly's book collecting the clan's genealogy and history was published in Tashkent.
2026
The clan website launches
The clan's family tree, history, and heritage are now available online in four languages.
